The Open Door Bird Sanctuary is a nature center devoted to wild bird rehabilitation and education in the heart of Door County, WI, one of the top tourist destinations in the Midwest. Combining rehabilitation, education and falconry training techniques, it will be the only facility of its kind in Door County and within 150 miles. We are located in Jacksonport on Co Rd I, one mile west of Hwy 57.
What’s New at the Sanctuary?

February 9, 2013 – Many animals hibernate through the winter, and a good number of bird species head south in search of warmer weather. But we’ve been right here in Door County making progress toward our goals at the Sanctuary. Our
Winter 2013 Newsletter details some of the work we’ve been doing. Click the link to find out more about our two new volunteers Karen and Marilyn, read why we hosted a one-time free Christmas tree event and learn about several other things that happened over the winter.

August 31, 2012 – A new newsletter is out to bring everyone up to speed on the Open Door Bird Sanctuary happenings. We hosted an interesting and productive work weekend in early June to help clean up the land. We invited two botanists to the land and learned a lot about all the different species of plants we have, as well as some tips on how to manage the diversity. We’ve even come up with a challenge to identify some very strange markings we found on some of our trees! To get the full detail on these topics (and many more) check out the
Summer 2012 Newsletter.

March 15, 2012 – Our second newsletter is out! This edition features a special guest article by Roy Lukes about a record-setting day of birding. There are also some thoughts from Rob about nesting songbirds, a brief recap of our exciting trip to the IAATE conference, as well as several other interesting updates. Read the
Winter/Spring 2012 Newsletter to find out more!

February 15, 2012 – Six of us from ODBS headed north to the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators Conference in Bloomington, MN. We had an awesome time and everyone learned a lot;

February 7, 2012 – We are taking the first step in our Capital Campaign 2012 by joining with Razoo.com, an international non-profit fundraising web site. We have created a presence for Open Door Bird Sanctuary as an organization on Razoo. We have also started a Fundraiser Page for the critical first phase of development: The Avian Clinic, Maintenance Building and preliminary land development.
