Door County Wisconsin's

Open Door Bird Sanctuary

The Open Door Bird Sanctuary raises avian awareness and inspires coexistence with the rich natural world of Door County, of Wisconsin and wherever you call home. Please let us share a bit more detail about our vision for the sanctuary.

We are a private non-profit 501(c) 3 organization and the only facility of its kind in the area. With 34 acres of pristine land with hiking trails, wildlife viewing and our birds of prey, we offer a unique combination of environmental and wildlife education as well as being a destination for both Door County residents and tourists alike. Our visitors are all ages offering just as much awe and inspiration to adults as to children.

We are currently closed for the winter (except for our last WINTER OPEN DAY – Saturday, March 16). Plus we do offer PERSONAL GROUP TOURS, click the button below for more information.

Adopting a Raptor

Our resident birds are the heart and soul of Open Door Bird Sanctuary and make appearances with our volunteers in front of many thousands of people each year to inspire and educate.

Help support one or more of our 19 non-releasable birds through “Adoption”. Your contributions help ODBS offset costs for food, enrichment, medical care and training.

An annual adoption is a wonderful way to directly support the continuing care of our resident birds of prey.

All adoptions are good for one year and are
tax deductible. An adoption makes a great
gift for any occasion.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

The OPEN DOOR BIRD SANCTUARY will raise avian awareness and inspire coexistence with the rich natural world of Door County, of Wisconsin and wherever you call home. Please let us share a bit more detail about our vision for the sanctuary.

We are a private non-profit 501(c) 3 organization and is the only facility of its kind in the area. We offer a unique combination of environmental and wildlife education as well as being a destination for both Door County residents and tourists alike.

Highlights of what we offer that are unique to our organization are:

          • Live native and non-native raptors for educational observation
          • Engaging environmental education through interactive, live behavioral demonstrations
          • Incorporate nature education along with raptor education to offer diverse program topics that highlight the property’s ecosystems and that of Door County in general including self-guided hiking trails
          • Deliver outreach educational bird programs to schools, nursing homes, club meetings, festivals, etc.
          • Offer a home to injured raptors (birds of prey)
